WEEK 3 - BASKETBALL AND FILM NIGHT AT THE COMMONS

“The wonderful things in life are the things you do, not the things you have.” Reinhold Messner
In my class on Monday, The Meaning of (Graphic) Style, I got to experiment using vinyl heat press on a T-shirt. This was really fun because in studio days at UWE we don’t get the chance to make things hands on. It was fun to create a design on my laptop and then be able to transfer it on vinyl and heat press it.
On Tuesday I went to my first basketball game and it was SO much fun. The atmosphere was amazing; we sat right next to the band and everyone was wearing their VCU T-shirt’s and had foam hands. It genuinely felt like all the films you see. Every timeout there were people trying to win prizes (up to $6000) on the court or the cheerleaders and dancers performing. VCU played Richmond and we won 87-68. The whole university spirit was amazing, the men’s basketball has had 17 sold out games in a row now. There are only 5 games left of the season so I’m definitely going to try and go to most of them.
Every other Friday is Film Fridays. They turn one of the huge lecture theatres into a cinema at The Commons Theatre; we got free snacks and watched Knives Out which was really good. Again, it was a really good atmosphere! You can also see every film that's going to be on throughout the semester so you're able decide which ones you want to register for.
