WEEK 14 & 15 - GOODBYE VCU

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”
Marcel Proust

Next week is the final week of the semester and I’ve been back in England over a month now. It’s gone really fast and lockdown has been extended at least until May 7th, so just under two weeks. Things aren’t really improving, although some states in America are already opening back up which is believed to be happening way too early.

I’ve almost completed my two final projects: one on the style associated with Lad Culture & the evolution of it since the 90s, and then a drawing. It’s quite sad that the semester is coming to an end and this is the actual end of my time at VCU.
I’ve been assigned the job of doing the family shop every week which is still surprisingly exciting. We’re also now allowed to drive to go on a walk so this week I drove to Avebury and back, and stopped on the way to say hi to some horses. The weather has been surprisingly nice for April which makes lockdown nicer in some ways. At least I’ve been able to sit out in the garden, or go on walks in the sun rather than being stuck inside with it raining.

I’ve been practising my Spanish daily on DuoLingo as I haven’t since A Levels, and have also designed a poster to be entered into the Cheltenham Design Festival competition. It had to be based on one of three phrases:

Stay home, save lives

Be kind, keep your distance

Protect our NHS / key workers

There are a lot of creative competitions and courses being released so I’ll probably keep an eye out for new ones to keep me busy over the next few weeks/months in lockdown.

VCU have held a lot of online events throughout this time which I think is really useful to help keep the VCU community together. There’s been an open mic night advertised, virtual conversation hours and VCU Rec has given us access to online exercise classes and a login to Les Milles.
