WEEK 7 & 8 - MIDTERMS

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”
Henry Miller

This week has been the last week before Spring Break, so I’ve had a couple of final assignments and submissions due. In my class, The Meaning of (Graphic) Styles, we completed our newspaper publication and have had it printed. I’ve completed 8 weekly drawing assignments in Drawing from Observation and I have a presentation after Spring Break for my Dialogues class. So far in the semester I’ve been able to time manage well and the work I’ve been set hasn’t been overwhelming. I think the structure of classes here at VCU, as well as havig more contact time and shorter weekly deadlines creates  a well organised feel and order to the week. Last week I had my submission for my Critical Analysis module at UWE. It was good to tick that off and have no more work from uni back home!

I went to watch the last home game of the season (basketball) on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, we lost but it was such a close game. It went to extra time and the score ended 80-77. The atmosphere was amazing though and it was the best game I’d been to! I’ve also gained 3 free VCU t-shirts this season.

Bobby Martin, creator of Champions Design agency in New York did a lecture this week for VCU graphic design. This was a really great lecture and he showed some really cool rebranding for companies such as MTV, NBA, and the branding for Cory Booker’s political campaign. Bobby is VCU alumni and was it really exciting to see the work his agency produces.

I’ve been in Richmond for two months now and the time has gone so fast. I’ve been to several basketball games, a weekend away in D.C., and a ski trip among many other things. Everything I’ve been involved in has been so fun and I’m looking forwards to the second half of the semester. I’ve made some really good friends and we’ve got some more things planned for when the weather gets warmer in the spring. This next half of the semester is shorter by a couple of weeks so time will pass even faster I’m sure. I’m excited for Spring Break and spending my 20th birthday in New York!
