WEEK 4 - SKI TRIP TO MASSANUTTEN RESORT

“One day I undertook a tour through the country, and the diversity and beauties of nature I met with in this charming season, expelled every gloomy and vexatious thought.”
Daniel Boone

Last Sunday night was the Super Bowl. A group of the international students went to one of the sports bars and watched the game; I’d never watched American football properly before, but it was a longgg game. We were there for about 5 hours (we got there early to get a table). It was a good evening though and fun to experience something else typically American. Although, San Francisco lost to Kansas which wasn’t the outcome we wanted! My friend and I also went for lunch earlier in the day at Lift Coffee Shop & Cafe which was really nice.
This weekend (8th February) the international students had the opportunity to go on a ski trip to Massanutten Ski Resort. It was so fun; everyone had the best day and had a great time skiing! We each paid $60 for lift access & ski hire for the day, as well as the transport that was provided which was amazing value. We drove there in minibuses which took about 2 hours and skied all afternoon until about 9:30pm. This was great because it was a lot quieter on the slopes, and it was so nice skiing in the dark. Quite a lot of the group hadn’t skied before so they had a lesson to start with whilst some of us went off and explored the resort.

We were all really tired by the end of the day, but everyone was buzzing when we got back on the bus, talking about the falls they had and funny moments that had happened. Everyone had such a good day and it was another great opportunity whilst out here in Richmond.

Since being here I’ve noticed how interchangeable the weather in Richmond is. Last week it got very cold (around -4°) yet at the start of this week it was 20° which was really nice. It’s only rained at night here also which is a huge change to the weather in England. The sky is also clear and really blue most days even when it’s really cold! I also went to my second basketball game on Friday evening which was fun. We won again so the atmosphere was really good!
