It has now been three weeks since I flew home, and three weeks of lockdown have passed. Online classes have been useful to create structure to my day and being set assignments have also kept me busy. Virginia went into lockdown last week also, so I’ve been in a similar situation to those at VCU. Because spring break was extended by a week, this half of the semester is quite a lot shorter and it’s definitely going by quickly! There are only two weeks left now, so I’ve been set a final research project for my class The Meaning of Style, and also an independent project to complete for my class Drawing from Observation. I’ve had two one on one check ins with one of my professors which has been really useful for feedback for this final research project. I have been looking into lad culture and the stylistic evolution of this movement, which birthed Nu Lad style.
I also had to self-isolate for two weeks after travelling from RVA, so finally this week I was allowed to go out and do the family food shop which was surprisingly exciting. Everyone was queuing outside, 2 metres apart from each other. There were 60 people allowed in the shop at a time, with a one in, one out system. There were markings and signs on the floor demonstrating the 2 metre distance that everyone should be staying at. It was quite surreal, but good to see that people are taking it seriously and are really making an effort to keep their distance. It’s been the same when I’ve been on walks too; everyone moves to the other side of the path or crosses the road. There were also signs in our park explaining the 2 metre rule and how social distancing should be practiced.
